2009-02-06 Paulius Jankunas has been named the MVP in January in SEB BBL Elite Division
In SEB BBL Elite Division teams are already taking their places in the tournament table. Still the battle goes on who is going to take the second place and automatically go to the final four tournament. Additionally, the last play-off spot is not determined as well. So, this is even more interesting for the fans and spectators.
But now let’s get down to the MVP title of the month. Journalists and media representatives have voted for the MVP and the results are as follows. Paulius Jankunas from team Kaunas Zalgiris is the winner of the MVP title in the month of January 2009. The second place in the ranking was taken by Virginijus Praskevicius from team Siauliai, the third was the best scorer in Elite Division this month Ingus Bankevics from Valmiera and the fourth stayed Arturas Jomantas from Lietuvos Rytas.
During the month of January Paulius Jankunas on average managed to score 22,7 points per game showing the third best result in the league. Moreover, Jankunas on average grabbed 8,0 rebounds per game entering the best rebounder list as the fifth one. Additionally, Zalgiris player made 2,3 assists and 1,0 steals per game. Lithuanian player was the best in the whole league by two point shot field goal percentage showing the incredible 76%. What is more he realized 90% of his free-throws as well. Paulius Jankunas collected two double-doubles in January as well. One more very interesting measure is fouls drawn and here Jankunas is in number one spot as against him in this month on average have been drawn 9,3 fouls!!! And finally the most important measure is average effectiveness. Paulius Jankunas on average gathered 37,3 effectiveness points per game and this makes him the most effective player in January.
It is important to emphasize that team Zalgiris did not lose any game during the month of January. In this month Jankunas helped Zalgiris to win their principal rivals ASK Riga with whom they are fighting for the overall second place in Elite Division. Additionally, Zalgiris outperformed Siauliai and Ventspils. As all the legionnaires have left team Zalgiris, Jankunas has been showing the inspiration to all the other players being the new leader of the team.
