Vermillion, S.D. – The University of South Dakota’s Tyler Cain has signed a contract to play for VEF Riga of the Baltic Basketball League in Latvia. Cain leaves tomorrow to join the squad.

VEF Riga are trying to shape up their roster prior to the start of the busy season. They are expected to take part in EuroCup, Baltic League, VTB United League and LBL.
VEF Riga invited Tyler Cain (203-F-88) for try-outs. The 22-year-old forward just graduated from the University of South Dakota. He tallied 14.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 3.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game in the senior season for the Coyotes.
The Latvian powerhouse is also in talks with Jeff Foote (213-C, college: Cornell) and Jerome Dyson (191-G-87). Jeff Foote recently signed a three-year deal with Maccabi Tel-Aviv. VEF Riga aims to take the centre on loan. Jeff Foote graduated from the Cornell University in 2010. The centre averaged 12.3 points, 8.1 boards, 2.3 assists and 1.9 blocks per game in his senior college season. Jerome Dyson has also never played at pro level before. The 23-year-old guard just graduated from the University of Connecticut. Jerome Dyson tallied 17.2 points, 4.3 boards and 4.2 assists per appearance in his senior season. The guard made it into the All-Big East 3rd Team at the end of the NCAA season.

Lätis, nagu Ida-Euroopas ikka, on kombeks ahnitseda tuimalt igasugu mehi kokku arvestamata reaalset rahanduslikku seisu. Võib vist päris kindel olla, et kui kõik need testitavad mehed jäävad, siis kuskil jaanuaris-veebruaris võib arvestada kisaga, et palgad maksmata.

BBL Cup will be in Tartu, Estonia. Rytas, Ventspils, Rock and Cramo.

Why Žalgiris not play?

It was BBL's decision, guess it's because the tournament is in Estonia,Zalgiris finished last season 2nd in Lithuania, so BBL gave home crowd a chance to see local top-clubs.

Then it doesn't make sense to have Kalev/Cramo there. If anything, Tarvas should be instead of Cramo. Kalev/Cramo made an embarrassing performance last season.

But maybe BBL thinks that Kalev/Cramo who represent Tallinn, is a bit better team now, and still Rakvere isn't a top-class team, even in Estonia.
