The new French champion, ASVEL announced that negotiations with Amara Sy (202-F-81) are terminated. At the end of Big Pro A Final, the Malian/ French forward was named best player and both sides had intention to continue collaboration. However, yesterday the team has told the Amara Sy and his representative they can not negotiate any more in order to find a solution to keep the player. ASVEL officially announced they are looking for new opportunities to compete roster for the next season.
This will be third time for Amara Sy to leave ASVEL. For the first time it was in 2002. After 3 years with the club, Sy moved to Le Mans. He returned in 2005 and played for ASVEL two seasons. During the summer 2007 Sy agreed terms with Greek AEK Athens, staying there one year. Finally he re-joined ASVEL again averaging 12.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 2.3 apg in Pro A 08/09. In EuroCup, Sy had 16 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.8 apg and 2 spg for 6 games. In September last year was got injured and was out for 6 weeks. In 2002 he won the Pro A title with ASVEL and two years later, he won the trophy in National Cup with Le Mans. Of course this year ASVEL once again became the Pro A champion. They will compete in Euroleague next season.
